The facades of the Hollaendisches Viertel in Potsdam reflect the changes in this area over time. Built as craftsmen's houses, you can occasionally see the residents' old inscriptions on the facades. Craftsmen and manufacturers had settled here. People lived in the front and worked in the back yard. The wealthier the homeowner, the more and richer the ornaments on the house. Today the craftsmen's yards have disappeared. They are now being replaced by apartments and garden restaurants, which occasionally leads to conflicts. And you can still find factories, goldsmiths and tailors who manufacture and sell their products themselves in the tradition of the district.
